The food situation for poor households remains normal and is favored by the stability and slight decline of commodity prices compared to the five year average. The majority of households still are consuming their own production. This allows them to be in Minimal (IPC Phase 1) food security.

In mainly pastoral areas, the deterioration of the security situation and the reduced demand from principle import countries is disrupting normal market functioning. In livestock markets, there has been a decline in the frequency of foreign buyers and persistent low animal prices 10 to 20 percent lower than the five year average – a situation particularly unfavorable for pastoralists who face lower than average livestock/cereal terms of trade.

Market gardening and gold panning activities are progressing normally. Since the harvests, these two activities have constituted, as in a normal year, the primary occupation of households. Since market prices for market garden products and gold are similar to the five year average, incomes generated are also typical.
