    • Well-below average rainfall has been received in most parts of the region since October, although recent improvements were experienced in some eastern areas.

    • The low rains have been associated with a delayed season onset in some western, central and southern parts of the region. Some areas experienced delays in season onset of at least 40 days.

    • A deterioration in pasture and livestock conditions occurred, and some drought-related livestock deaths were reported.

    • Forecasts for reduced rainfall continue to raise concerns of potentially reduced crop harvests.

FEWS NET’s Seasonal Monitor reports are produced for Central America and the Caribbean, West Africa, East Africa, Central Asia, and Somalia every 10-to-30 days during the region’s respective rainy season(s). Seasonal Monitors report updates on weather events (e.g., rainfall patterns) and associated impacts on ground conditions (e.g., cropping conditions, pasture and water availability), as well as the short-term rainfall forecast.
