    • Between March and April, rainfall favored planting and spring crop development. However, May was marked by below-average rainfall across most of the country, despite increased precipitation in the second dekad. This increase boosted soil moisture, facilitating vegetation growth at around average levels.

    • Security has deteriorated, and gangs control more territories (West, Centre, South, North-West, Artibonite), affecting economic activities and, above all, the supply of goods to markets, thus reducing physical access to households. In precarious neighborhoods, informal income opportunities for households are also adversely impacted.

    • Livelihoods continue to be disrupted, mainly due to high commodity prices and a lack of employment opportunities. Very poor households will therefore continue to adopt Crisis or Stressed strategies to maintain their current level of food consumption. Crisis (IPC Phase 3) and Stressed (IPC Phase 2) food insecurity outcomes can be observed in most regions.

This Key Message Update provides a high-level analysis of current acute food insecurity conditions and any changes to FEWS NET's latest projection of acute food insecurity outcomes in the specified geography. Learn more here.
