El Niño pone en riesgo cultivos de Primera para agricultores de subsistencia
  • A mayo, con el establecimiento de la temporada anual de escasez de alimentos, se prevé que la mayoría de los hogares pobres de la región exhiban resultados de inseguridad alimentaria Acentuada (Fase 2, CIF) que, a través de algunas estrategias de respuesta sostenibles, consiguen reducir la brecha alimentaria. Entre junio y agosto, la seguridad alimentaria de los hogares pobres se deteriorará, especialmente en el área rural, dado los pronósticos agroclimáticos desfavorables. Los hogares en el Corredor Seco experimentarán pérdidas en la cosecha de Primera, factor que, aunado a los shocks anteriores en Honduras y El Salvador, impulsará condiciones de Crisis (Fase 3, CIF) en áreas focalizadas de estos dos países.

  • Con el establecimiento del fenómeno de El Niño, se prevé acumulados de lluvia por debajo del promedio y altas temperaturas en toda la región, especialmente en el Corredor Seco. Estas condiciones, unidas a menor inversión y una reducción en las áreas de producción por parte de los agricultores de subsistencia, resultarán en cosechas y disponibilidad de alimentos por debajo del promedio y menores a las de 2022. Sin embargo, las cosechas nacionales se mantendrán cercanas al promedio gracias al riego en la producción comercial.

  • Se observa una ligera mejora en los niveles de inflación, los precios de los combustibles, así como la estabilización de los precios al por mayor del maíz blanco respecto al mes anterior en la región, y una leve baja en el precio del frijol rojo en el mercado de Managua, Nicaragua. Actualmente, esto apoya el acceso a los alimentos; no obstante, los valores atípicamente altos respecto al promedio continuarán, dificultando el poder adquisitivo de los hogares durante el período de análisis.
