FEWS NET food security classification data, dating back to June 2009, is available for download as regional GIS shapefiles and images. This data is published every four months after Outlook reports are published in February, June, and October. Updates to the Outlook data are also published here if changes are made to the data in non-Outlook months; the most recent data is at the top of the page. FEWS NET uses scenario development to develop its projections. Since March 2011, FEWS NET has used the Integrated Phase Classification (IPC), a five-level scale for classifying food insecurity severity. FEWS NET classification is IPC-compatible: our analysis adheres to key IPC protocols but does not necessarily reflect the consensus of national food security partners. Click the “download all data” button for historical current situation (non-projection) data for all regions. We suggest using this option when analyzing historical food insecurity, as this represents FEWS NET’s historical classification of the current food security situation at that particular time. Alternatively, you can search for and download current situation and projection data or maps for any period using the filter and options below. For more information on our data click here.
