- In February the southern half of the region experienced high temperatures and dryness, negatively affecting crops in several areas including South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Lesotho.
- Parts of Madagascar, Malawi, and Mozambique continued to receive heavy rainfall in February.
- Continued dryness in early March is expected to compromise crop production prospects in the northeastern parts of the region that planted crops much later than normal.
