Chemonics seeks a Data Specialist to join the FEWS NET 8 project. FEWS NET 8 Knowledge Base (FEWS NET 8 KB) is a $65 million project which will create and update FEWS NET’s knowledge base about livelihood zones and market systems on which FEWS NET’s acute food insecurity early warning analyses are predicated, thereby ensuring that USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA) is able to allocate emergency food assistance effectively and in accordance with humanitarian principles. The full-time DC-based (remote eligible) Data Specialist for FEWS NET 8 KB will support the data management lead in ensuring collation and validation of primary data collected by the FEWS NET 8 KB field enumerators and processing of secondary data used as input to markets and livelihoods deliverables. Responsibilities Include:
- Ensuring that primary and secondary data collected are prepared, cleaned and archived in a timely fashion, inline with FEWS NET Datawarehouse (FDW) protocols as necessary, for transmission to the FEWS NET Hub;
- Ensuring that FEWS NET 8 KB data are delivered to relevant partners organizations based on agreements with these organizations;
- Supporting the maintenance and updating of FEWS NET 8 KB’s baseline spreadsheets databases and work closely with FEWS NET Hub on standardizing the spreadsheets for eventual upload into the FDW. Contributing to the documentation and files of the project and updating essential datasets collected and used during the production of livelihood zone profiles and market fundamentals reports;
- Support initiatives developing and maintaining data visualizations tools for internal analysis use and/or FEWS NET website;
- Support data processing and cleaning of primary and secondary for eventual
- Contributing to other FEWS NET data and information products required locally and by the Washington-based technical team;
- Support KB collaboration with FEWS NET Hub on FDW and FEWS NET Data Explorer activities and related jira tickets;
- Other related tasks that may be assigned by the Data Management Lead or Chief of Party.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum 3 years of relevant administrative or professional work experience;
- Experience in computer science, information systems, data analytics a related field, or other discipline that is directly relevant to socio-economic data collection and management is desirable;
- Experience relevant to the work of FEWS NET, such as economics, agricultural economics, agronomy, nutrition, climatology, anthropology, or social geography is desirable.
- Previous experience with data quality control is highly desirable;
- Ability to maintain database standards, guidelines, and procedures; process non-standard data; and ability to balance multiple tasks;
- Proven experience in data manipulation and analysis software such as R, Python, PowerBi, or similar tool;
- Demonstrated ability in handling and processing non-standardized data;
- Excellent computer skills with an expert level in Microsoft Excel;
- Excellent planning and organizational skills;
- Strong data management skills and attention to detail;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- Demonstrated ability to interact positively with various food security stakeholders;
- Demonstrated ability to work and coordinate effectively with remote colleagues;
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility and integrity
- Fluency in English is required; Proficiency in French, Portuguese, Spanish, or Arabic language is desirable.
