Our Networking Approach

Our Networking Approach

Network development is a dedicated effort to strengthen cooperation and strategic engagement among food security partners. Instead of relying solely on building individual capacity, network development brings food security partners together to leverage available resources and work together in addressing critical needs or gaps.

About Network Development

Food security analysis occurs within a global network of international, governmental, and non-governmental organizations all pursuing the common goal of reducing levels of acute food insecurity. By building on strategic partnerships, sharing data and information, and coordinating around critical activities, FEWS NET is committed to building sustainable processes that withstand changing political dynamics and staff turnover.

FEWS NET’s Approach to Network Development

The progress toward sustained, locally-owned processes occurs when the vision and the work are shared by a network of institutions. The greatest gains and efficiencies come when institutions and agencies recognize their mutual interdependence, the benefits in cooperation, and agree to exchange data, analysis, and expertise.

FEWS NET’s network development strategy involves the development of enhanced, durable, effective, and sustainable information networks in food-insecure countries and regions. This approach is implemented through localized, context-specific national and regional strategies that are developed alongside food security partners involved in the targeted network.

Building Global Partnerships

FEWS NET works with local, national, regional, and international partners to track and publicly report on conditions in the world’s most food-insecure countries. Major joint activities include identifying new data sources, improving access to existing data, monitoring and assessments, data exchanges, collaborative analysis, report writing, and capacity strengthening.

Our network development strategy recognizes the importance of engaging multiple actors in food security and early warning analysis, and leverages strengths and comparative advantages across network actors to fill identified gaps and improve the overall availability of relevant information and analysis.

Additionally, this strategy includes strengthening food security analysis quality across network actors through the efficient implementation of focused and consistent data, information, and analysis activities.
