Markets and Trade
Markets and trade data are critical for understanding, analyzing, and projecting acute food insecurity. Explore our expansive datasets on staple food prices and cross-border trade to gain insights into regional food availability and market trends.
Markets and Trade data availability varies by country. Due to a pause in operations in early 2025, FEWS NET-collected markets and trade data are unavailable for recent months. While it will not be possible to backfill these missing data, FEWS NET will resume its data collection efforts moving forward and work with partners to fill any data gaps where possible.
FEWS NET monitors, gathers, and maintains staple food, market, and cross-border trade price data for FEWS NET-monitored countries. These markets and trade data are critical to the success of FEWS NET’s integrated food security analysis.
FEWS NET monitors staple food prices in countries where we regularly conduct integrated food security analysis, as well as other countries with broader regional or global influence. FEWS NET relies heavily on a network of national and international partners for staple food price data, as well as other economic indicators (such as the consumer price index and exchange rate data). FEWS NET enumerators collect price data directly in some countries, as well.
The staple food price data below comprise all current and historical data that are available to the public. Cross-border trade data, collected in collaboration with a network of regional partners, are also available for East and Southern Africa, addressing the exchange of food commodities at select border points. All downloads are available in .csv file formats.
